The Dhapa Dumping Area is owned by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) and lies within Ward Nos. 57 and 58 of the KMC administrative boundaries, on the eastern part of Kolkata. Dhapa has been historically used for waste dumping for many decades. The current “dumping area” is spread over about 35 hectares & amounting to approximately 30 million metric ton of waste.

Stinking Dhapa Dump to turn Tourist Destination by 2020. In what is pipped as the largest scientific clousre of a dump site in India, engineers are engaged in a mammoth operation to first a 11-storey high garbage mount at Dhapa with plastic sheets and then cover it with enough soil to lay 18 football pitches - Times News Network, Kolkata 03 August 2017.

Scientific Closure with Bio Remediation of Adharwadi Dumping Site

Municipal Solid Waste at Adharwadi Dumping Site amounts to approximately 1.32 million metric tons spread across an area of approximately 15 acres of land. The objective of this project activity is closure of existing dumpsite site at Adharwadi in a planned and scientific manner and reclaiming 33% of land within the site. After treatment scientific treatment using bio-remediation, appropriate closure of the dumps with capture and destruction of methane can produce major reductions in Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions from this site. The project would not only contribute to India’s efforts to curtail Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions, but will also result in significant local environmental and social benefits.

CONSTRUCTION OF SCIENTIFIC CLOSURE/CAPPING SYSTEM FOR MSW DUMPING SITE AT VILLAGE SOKHDA, TALUKA & DIST. RAJKOT

Sokhda dumping site was commissioned by RMC more than about 30 years ago and MSW has been dumped in about 18 acres. The site has approximately 1 lakh MT of municipal solid waste dumped in this area. By implementing scientific bio remediation/containment, waste shall be confined to 6 acres of area by closure/capping of dump site and reclamation of approximately 12 acres of land, which can be used by Rajkot Municipal Corporation for any other purpose.

Bioremediation and scientific closure of existing Dumpsite at Bhanpura Bhopal

The garbage is scattered in an area of about 36.9 acres of land. Bioremediation & scientific closure of dumpsite will reduce the land footprint of wasteby 21.03 acres within the site and the remaining area (15.57 acres) can be capped as per the provisions of MSW rules 2016. The reclaimed land can be used by Bhopal Municipal Corporation for any other purpose.
